Sarah Engel's research receives national attentionBLACKSBURG, VA (03/28/2003) - Environmental Services & Consulting (ES&C) would like to congratulate Sarah Engel, Senior Scientist, on the national attention her research has recently received. Sarah’s research, originally published in the fall 2002 edition of American Entomologist, was recently written about in a four-page article in The Volunteer Monitor. A national newsletter, The Volunteer Monitor focuses on national and international volunteer watershed monitoring. Ms. Engel’s research, done in conjunction with Dr. Reese Voshell of Virginia Tech, focused on volunteer biomonitoring methods. Ms. Engel’s study refined a volunteer biomonitoring method in Virginia then tested the new method to verify data accuracy. As a result, the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality has signed a Memorandum of Agreement to use volunteer data collected using the new method for a variety of purposes, including reporting stream quality to the federal Environmental Protection Agency. A copy of this article is available from the EPA’s website or from ES&C’s website by clicking the link below. For further information about her work, Sarah can be reached at 812-320-2823 or sengel@es-and-c.com.
